中学生能讲明白离子推进器?别不信,有视频为证 | 三牛趣课堂

大家好,这里是武汉三牛中美中学官微与教学部联合策划的固定栏目「趣课堂」。我们将不定期通过不同学科的课堂实录,向各位家长充分展示我校教师的教学智慧与艺术。在这些课上,老师把主动权交给学生,启发他们的批判性思维、创造性思维,锻炼他们的口头表达能力、解决复杂问题的能力,让学生感受有别于传统教育的学习体验。



还记得本学年第一期趣课堂,我们记录了三牛物理外教Fahad通过多样化的视觉化演示,帮助学生理解电场的概念及应用。


学期渐入尾声,我们受邀再次回到Fahad老师的物理课堂。


这次,他的身份是引导者和激励者,学生变换到老师的立场,为校长及低年级同学传授有关离子推进器与太空飞行的物理概念。

当我们想到太空旅行时,我们会想象一个巨大的火箭从地球发射升空,随着巨大的装置努力摆脱地球引力的限制,巨大的火焰和烟雾(以及碳)从底部喷出。但是,一旦航天器打破了与地球的引力联系,我们就有其他选择来为它们提供动力。长期以来,在科幻小说中梦寐以求的离子推进现在被用于在太空中进行长途旅行的探测器和航天器。


When we think of space travel, we picture a massive rocket blasting off from Earth, with huge blast streams of fire and smoke (carbon emissions as well) coming out the bottom, as the enormous contraption struggles to escape the confines of the Earth’s gravity. But once a spacecraft has broken its gravitational bond with Earth, we have other options for powering them. Ion propulsion, long dreamed of in science fiction, is now used to send probes and spacecraft on long journeys through space.


我真的很喜欢通过给学生提供研究课题来给他们提供挑战。由于我们整个学期都在学习电学和磁学,因此我让学生完成基于在课堂上涵盖的主题项目,并以某种方式让他们思考科学进步,以便有一天他们可以为人类进步做出贡献。


I really like to challenge my students by giving them research topics that enable higher order thinking through application of scientific concepts. Since we are covering Electricity and Magnetism throughout this semester, I make my students go through projects that are based on the topics we covered within the classroom and can also somehow make them think about scientific advancements so one day they can contribute towards the betterment of mankind.


我们上一个项目的主题是基于离子推进和离子发动机。同学们需要做的就是研究这种惊人的现象——通过电磁力的太空飞行,同时,他们还必须比较是什么使它比我们使用的现有技术(化学火箭)更好或更差。

The topic for our last project was based on Ion Propulsion and Ion Engines. My students’ job was to research this amazing phenomenon - space flight through the power of electromagnetism, while they also had to compare what made it better or worse than the existing technology we use (chemical rockets).

十年级学生面向非科学领域的教师、校长,通过海报展示提出了惊人的观点。

My students came up with amazing research through poster presentations. The idea was to present what they have done in front of a panel of teachers/leaders from different fields of science and education.






其次,我鼓励10年级学生站在老师的立场上,向初中部学弟学妹讲授他们所发现的东西。这是一次成功的尝试。初中生被离子推进的概念和想法所吸引,以及它如何改变太空旅行的未来。他们有很多疑问,高年级的学生做了我期望他们做的事情——成为老师。

Secondly, I encouraged my students to step into the shoes of the teacher and give a lecture to the entire middle school on what they uncovered. It was a success as the middle students gravitated towards the idea of Ion Propulsion and how it changes the future of space travel. They had a lot of questions and my Grade 10 students did exactly what I expected them to do – become teachers.
